Adult Wilderness Courses

Workshops, expeditions and intensive courses.

  • Art of Mentoring Workshop - Get hands-on training in the principles behind Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature in this weeklong workshop.
  • NatureSkills Survival Skills Workshop - Spend a week exploring the natural world and learning outdoor survival skills! In one week learn survival basics, as well as wildlife tracking, bird language, wild edible plant use, and more.
  • Idaho Wolf Tracking Expedition Unravel the mysteries wild animals leave behind! Explore remote and beautiful backcountry, while learning first-hand about the ways of the gray wolf and the rest of their ecosystem.
  • Anake Outdoor School - The Anake Outdoor School is our most comprehensive training course for adults. Graduates come away with a strong foundation of wilderness survival and naturalist knowledge and the ability to apply these outdoor skills in their professional and personal lives.
  • Anake Outdoor Leadershp Program- At The Anake Outdoor Leadership Program, you gain the necessary skill, knowledge and experience to be effective outdoor leaders at Wilderness Awareness School or other outdoor education organizations. This program is available only for Anake Outdoor School/Residential Program graduates.

Nature Preschool & Homeschool Programs

  • Monthly Nature Programs (ages 6-12) - Our instructors guide students into experiences that nurture their connection to the earth and allow them to feel at home in the natural world.
  • Nature Homeschool Program - Youth School (ages 7-12) - Through creative play and exploration, Youth School participants work together in small groups, gaining nature awareness and knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds, and survival.
  • Teen Homeschool Program - Community School (ages 13-18) - Our mission is to create an educational environment where homeschooled teenagers engage their natural intelligence and awaken their innate abilities to perceive and connect with the world around them. Our students immerse themselves in intensive, experiential studies of nature from both scientific and indigenous perspectives.

Summer Camps

Seattle Summer Camps

Since 1995, Wilderness Awareness School's Summer Camps for ages 6 - 18 have cultivated young people's understanding and appreciation of nature, community and self. Through exploration, adventure, and creative play, students work together in small groups gaining knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds and survival skills. Our highly trained instructors guide students into experiences that nurture their connection to the earth and build skills that will serve them for a lifetime.

Summer Day Camps

(ages 6 - 12) Nature adventures for kids in Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland and Carnation.

Through creative play, exploration and adventure, children at our summer day camps work together in small groups gaining nature awareness and experiential knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds and survival skills. Our highly trained instructors guide students into experiences that nurture their connection to the earth and allow them to feel at home in nature.

Advanced Summer Day Camps

(ages 10- 12). Advanced Nature adventures in

Outdoor Survival Skills and Scout Awareness.

Overnight Summer Camps for Teens

(ages 11-16) Overnight Adventure Camps

1 hour from Seattle. Wilderness Survival Skills and more! Overnight summer camps give teens exciting outdoor camping experiences while learning in-depth skills of survival and nature awareness. They are filled with outdoor adventures and surrounded by the beauty and comfort of a private basecamp in the forested foothills of the Cascades.

Teen Adventure Wolf Tracking Expeditions

(ages 13 - 18) Explore the wild Idaho backcountry on this Teen Adventure as we search for the tracks and sign of the elusive wolf and other wildlife of this rich ecosystem. Through the rivers, forests, and mountains we have outdoor adventures guided by our most experienced instructors. Teens can be picked up either in Duvall, WA or Boise, ID, and driven by van to our basecamp.

Home Study Course

Learn in your own place and at your own pace with the Kamana Home Study Course.

  • Kamana Overview - This home study course covers the naturalist background needed to engage in the wilderness arts, including tracking, bird language, survival and native living skills, traditional herbalism, and naturalist mentoring.
  • Kamana One - In only a few weeks you'll experience a richer sense of awareness, and a deeper understanding of the plants and animals in your area. This home study course will also prepare you for advanced studies of the natural world around you.

Nature Store

  • Nature Store -Welcome to the Nature Store at Wilderness Awareness School
    The Nature Store at Wilderness Awareness School is your Nature Book, Nature Gift and Naturalist Training Resource. We take the guesswork out of selecting from a number of great nature field guides, bird guides, survival books, kids books, young naturalist field guides, tracking books, mammal books, nature games and more.

    Having the right nature study resources makes all the difference. We offer the best bird guides & resources for bird ID, birding by ear, and learning to understand and interpret bird language and behaviors. Featuring Sibley's Guides, Stokes and Peterson bird guides, bird CDs and more!

    We are proud to offer the Kamana Naturalist Training Program – a unique and powerful 4-part nature home study course. In addition, we have a collection of our favorite nature books & courses for kids - as well as young adults, and adults who are young at heart. These include Audubon Field Guides, Golden Guides, Nature Games, Young Naturalist Field Guides, and other unique Nature Gifts, such as “Kamana for Kids”.
